Spinach Lentil Curry / Dal Palak
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup lentil/ toor dal
- 1 to 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 cup roughly chopped spinach
- 1 onion,chopped
- 1 small tomato, chopped
- 3 garlic pods, crushed
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
- 2 small green chillis ,slit lengthwise
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- curry leaves, few
- 1 whole dry red chilli
- 1/4 tsp hing / asafoetida powder
- salt, as needed
- 1 tbs ghee or vegetable oil
Directions
Heat ghee or oil in a pressure cooker , spluter cumin seeds, mustard seeds and curry leaves. Add red chillis, crushed garlic, saute for few seconds. Add green chillis, onions and tomatoes , saute another 2 more minutes. Add hing powder, turmeric powder and chilli powder Now add spinach, saute till leaves get wilted completely. Pressure cook adding toor dal, water and salt upto 2to 3 whistles. Once cooked mix well, adjust salt, cook on low flame for 4 to 5 more minues till you get the consistency of your choice. Add more water if needed. Serve with rice, roti etc.
