Oats scones
These Scones are simple, light easy to make and above all butter free. Adding oats give them nice texture and nutty flavor, the texture and taste is somewhere between Biscuits and Biscotti.
Ingredients
- 2 cups white whole wheat flour, I used whole wheat pastry flour
- 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/3 cup rolled oats
- zest of 1 lemon
- 1 1/3 cup heavy cream
- 1 tbs meted butter or 1 tbs heavy cream(optional)
Directions
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. In a large bowl mix together flour, baking powder, salt, brown sugar,
lemon zest and oats. Slowly stir in heavy cream and mix until the dough just come together. Turn the dough onto a well floured surface and knead it gently into a circle. Cut the circle into half and each half into triangles. Place the scones on the baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with melted butter or heavy cream, sprinkle some sugar on top and bake for about 18 to 20 minutes or till golden brown.
