Chakkakkuru thoran
Its Jack fruit season in our home state Kerala. Jack fruit is a favorite seasonal fruit of all Malayalees and each and everyone who live abroad miss them a lot. Don't worry , its widely available in almost all Chinese supermarkets. We got fresh ripe jack fruit last week and saved the seeds to make jack fruit thoran.Use fresh jack fruit seeds to get the authentic taste.So here is the easy and delicious Chakkakkuru thoran.
Ingredients
- 1 cup jack fruit seeds, use fresh
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp chilli powder
- salt, as needed
- water, as needed
- 1/4 cup fresh grated coconut
- 1/4 cup onions,chopped
- 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 2 green chillies
- 1 garlic, crushed
- curry leaves, few
- 1 tbs coconut oil
Directions
Remove the outer layer of Jack fruit seeds and slightly peel the brown skin. Wash and cut lengthwise, cook
them with enough water adding turmeric powder chili powder and salt. Cook them till soft. Heat coconut oil in a pan,splutter cumin seeds ,mustard seeds and curry leaves.Add green chillies, garlic and chopped onions. Saute till onions get slightly browned. Add cooked jack fruit seeds and grated coconut. Stir fry for few more minutes, serve with rice, porridge etc.
