Banana Pastries \ Pastry With Banana Dates Filling
This is a simple pastry with banana and dates filling. In original recipe apricots are used in place of dates.Its a basic pastry dough recipe , you can try different filling.
Ingredients
For The Dough
- 3 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
- 4tbs shortening
- 4 tbs unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 egg yolk, beaten, for glazing
For The Filling
- 2 large bananas, peeled
- 1/2 cup finely chopped dried apricots or chopped dates
- nutmeg powder, a pinch
- confectioner's sugar, for dusting
Directions
Sift the flour into a large bowl.Add the shortening and butter and rub into the flour with your fingertips until the
mixture resembles bread crumbs. Gradually add water to form a soft dough. Wrap in a plastic wrap and let chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Mash the bananas with a fork and stir in the apricots, nutmeg and orange juice, mix well. Roll the dough out on a lightly floured counter and cut out 16 circles. Spoon a little of the banana filling onto one half of each circle and fold the dough over the filling to make semicircles. Seal the edges by pressing with the fork.Arrange the pastries on a cookie sheet and brush them with the beaten egg yolk.Cut a small slit in each pastry and bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown and crisp. Sprinkle powdered sugars on top and serve hot.
