Muthira Kaya Puzhukku/ Horse gram Plantain Curry
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup horse gram/Muthira
- 3/4 cup cup raw plantains, chopped
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- salt, as needed
To grind
- 3/4 c grated coconut
- 2 shallots
- 2 green chillies
- 1-2 garlics
- 1/8 tsp cumin seeds
To garnish
- Curry leaves
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 2 tsp coconut oil / any veg oil
- 2 shallots, chopped
- 1to 2 red dry red chillies
- 1 tbs grated coconut
Directions
Wash the horse gram in water several times. Dry roast muthira or horse gram for 5 to 7 minutes. Pressure cook horse gram up to 5 to 7 whistles adding 3 times volume water and little bit turmeric powder.
Meanwhile cook raw plantains separately, with turmeric powder and salt. Add cooked horse gram to plantains. To this add ground coconut paste and cook for few more minutes by adding little bit water. Cook till the gravy thickens. Turn off the flame. Heat oil in a small pan, splutter mustard seeds followed by red chillies, curry leaves, shallots and coconuts. Serve with Rice porridge, Rice, Roti etc.
