Idiyappam / Noolputtu
Idiyappam is one of
Kerala's favourite breakfast item, made of rice flour. Use any rice flour or Idiyappam podi available in market. But home made rice flour gives the better taste!. Taste and texture may vary with the quality of rice flour used.
Ingredients
- 1 cup rice flour
- 1 cup boiling water
- a pinch of salt
- grated coconut, as needed
Directions
Add pinch of salt in boiling water and add little by little to the rice flour, stirring in between with a large
wooden spoon to form a soft dough. You may need to add more water or flour to make it easily pass through the press. Fill a small portion of dough into the idiyappam press. Add small layer of grated coconut on the bottom of the steaming plate. Press the dough through the idiyappam press onto the plate in circles. Add generous amount of coconuts on top also. Steam it for 8 to 10 minutes. Serve with
chicken curry, egg curry or eat with ghee and sugar.
