Breadfruit theeyal / Kadachakka Theeyal
Ingredients
- 1 cup sliced breadfruit( I used frozen)
- 3 to 5 sliced shallots
- 2 green chillies
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- curry leaves, few
- salt as needed
- tamarind, gooseberry sized
To roast and grind
- 3/4 cup coconut
- 2 to 4 shallots
- 2 dry red chilli
- 2 to 4 garlic
- 3/4 cup grated coconut
- 1/2 tsp chilli powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
For tampering
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- curry leaves
- 1 whole dry red chilli
Directions
Dry roast coconut with shallots, garlics and red chillies till golden brown. To this add red chilli powder and
coriander powder, and stir for 2 more minutes at law flame. Cool it and grind to a fine paste without adding water.Keep aside.
Add shallots, green chiilies, turmeric powder,curry leaves , water and salt to breadfruit chunks, cook well.To this add ground coconut paste and tamarind extract ( Soak Gooseberry sized tamarind in water and extract the juice). Boil well till the gravy slightly thickens. Tamper with mustard seeds,curry leaves,red chillies and shallots. Serve with rice.
