Kerala Crab Curry
Ingredients
- 3-4 blue crabs
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 1 medium tomato, sliced
- 2 green chillies, chopped
- 2 tsp of chopped ginger
- 2 tsp red chilli powder
- 2 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 cup coconut milk
- Few curry leaves
- Salt as required
- 1 tbsp of vegetable oil
- Small piece of cinnamon and few cloves
Preparation
Clean and cut the crab into smaller pieces(usually small crabs to 2 and bigger crabs to 4). You may include
the big claws too. In a thick bottomed vessel heat the oil at medium temperature. Add red chilli powder, coriander powder and turmeric powder. Lightly roast and add 2 tbsp of coconut milk,. mix the masala with the coconut milk and cook for 2-3 minutes to bring out the flavor. Add Green chilli and chopped ginger and cook for a minute or two and then add Onion and Tomatoes. Cook for 3-4 minutes and add enough water to cover everything and let it cook for another 15-20 minutes until the tomatoes and onion is cooked and soft and thick curry is formed. Add the remaining coconut milk(add water if curry is thick) and bring to a boil add curry leaves, cinnamon and cloves and the cleaned crabs and cook for 7-8 minutes.
