Healthy Oats Puttu / Puttu made with rolled oats
We got this great idea from our friends, it turned out really great. So next time replace rice
flour with oats and enjoy this healthy and delicious puttu for breakfast or dinner. It tasted
more like wheat puttu.
Ingredients
- Old fashioned Oats - 2 cups
- Shredded Coconut - 1/4 Cup
- Water and Salt - as required.
Preparation method
Puttu a is a traditional break fast item in South India and is usually prepared with rice flour. It is prepared in a steaming equipment called puttu maker. Here we tried to replace rice with oats and it turned out awesome.
Give a quick spin to the oats in food processor or blender. Mix 1 tsp of salt in about 1 cup of water.Add salt water to the oats 1 tbsp at a time and then mixing it together, by breakdown all the lumps. Add enough water to wet all the oats, but it still remains in powder form. This is little bit more difficult than with rice flour as oats sticks together easily. In the puttu maker start with a thin layer of coconut and then add about 1/2 cup of the wet oats mixture. Alternate with coconut and oats layers. Steam it similar to rice puttu for about 5 minutes and puttu is ready.
